Mumbai Police are on high alert after a deadly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's (J&K) Pahalgam on April 22. Terrorists opened fire on tourists at Baisaran, a popular tourist spot near Pahalgam. Of the 26 total killed, six were from Maharashtra; while many others were injured.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced a compensation of INR 5 lakh each to the families of the six Maharashtra tourists killed in the Pahalgam terror attack.

One person from Panvel was killed. He has been identified as Dilip Desale, a senior citizen. Another victim was Hemant Joshi, 44, from Dombivli West in Thane district. He had visited Kashmir with his maternal cousins, Sanjay Lele and Atul Mone, who were also killed in the same attack. The remaining two victims have been identified as Kaustubh Ganbote and Santosh Jagdale from Pune.

Coincidentally, another person named Santosh Jagdale from Sangli narrowly escaped the attack. He did not find a horse to ride to the meadow. That saved his life. However, seeing the death of a Santosh Jagdale on the news caused panic among his relatives. They kept calling him until they found out he was safe.

Two more tourists from Maharashtra were injured. They were S. Halchandra Rao and Manik Patel. Both were from Panvel.

There have been many tourists stranded in Kashmir. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde personally went to Jammu and Kashmir to meet to reassure them and bring them back to the state. Late last night, April 23, 75 of these tourists were brought back to the state by a special flight.

To help tourists return home safely, two special flights will run from Srinagar to Mumbai on Thursday, April 24. One flight will be operated by IndiGo and the other by Air India. Together, they will carry 183 tourists.

CM Devendra Fadnavis in Dombivali, offered his humble floral tributes to Late Atul Mone, Late Sanjay Lele, and Late Hemant Joshi, who lost their lives in the cowardly terrorist attack in Pahalgam. He met, consoled and expressed deepest condolences to the bereaving families.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation made the arrangements for the flights. Maharashtra CM Fadnavis asked State Civil Aviation Minister Murlidhar Mohol to book seats for stranded tourists. The minister said the state will cover all flight expenses.

Many tourists are trying to return home quickly. The attack has left people in fear. The attack led to a nationwide alert.
