Konkan Railway has decided to short-termining three major trains on the Konkan route at Thane and Dadar stations till April 30. The decision has been taken due to the ongoing infrastructure work at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai.
Konkan Railway officials have confirmed in a recent statement that three trains will be short-terminated at Thane and Dadar stations till April 30.
12134 Mangaluru Junction - Mumbai CSMT Express will now halt at Thane station instead of CSMT till April 30. Also, train number 22120 Margao Junction - Mumbai CSMT Tejas Express will halt at Dadar station till April 30.
Train No. 12052, Margao Junction - Mumbai CSMT (CSMT) Jan Shatabdi Express will also halt at Dadar station till April 30. Passengers are advised to plan their journey accordingly and arrange for other transport options from the concerned stations.
To reduce travel congestion during holidays, the Konkan Vikas Samiti has demanded a special direct train from CSMT/Dadar to Chiplun.
With the summer vacation season underway, the number of passengers in Konkan has increased. This has also led to increased congestion in railway trains and difficulties in getting reservations.
In this backdrop, the Konkan Vikas Samiti has requested the Indian Railways to start a special direct train from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) or Dadar to Chiplun to meet the growing demand.
Currently, most of the special trains are designed to serve long-distance passengers heading to Goa and Sindhudurg. However, passengers heading to towns in Raigad and Ratnagiri districts - including Roha, Mangaon, Mahad, Khed and Pen - are facing difficulty in finding seats due to heavy congestion.
Although the Panvel-Chiplun special train was started to partially meet the demand, the Konkan Vikas Samiti argues that it fails to meet the needs of a large section of passengers from Mumbai, Thane and the extended metropolitan area.
