The encroachment department under the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has intensified the work of taking action against unauthorized constructions in several localities. As per reports, the officials have cracked down unauthorized constructions in Airoli and Ghansoli areas in a week, and it is being said that another unauthorized construction project in Belapur was demolished on Thursday, July 1, 2201.
Information shared by the officials reveals that Laxman Tukaram Bhoir and Satyawan Savlaram Mhatre from Sector 20 in Belapur village started the construction work without receiving prior permission from the Municipal Corporation. A notice under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional Planning and Town Planning Act, 1966 was issued by the Belapur division asking them to stop the work, however, they continued the construction at the location forcing the officials to take necessary action.

Officers and staff from the Belapur division were present during the demolition and this required a total of 18 laborers, two gas cutters, and two electric hammers. Police from encroachment department were deployed for this operation. Warning about the same, NMMC officials have said that the action will be intensified in the future as well, if any such construction projects are reported.
In the end of June 2021, NMMC demolished a G+2 storey building at Plot No. J-267, J-277, G-131 and D-4 in Sector 3 of Airoli Division. The construction of RCC ground floor column at Rishivaji Lake area, Ghansoli village in the division was started in an unauthorised manner again without receiving any prior permission of the Municipal Corporation. Despite the notice issued by the Ghansoli department, the construction continued, basis which the NMMC officials had to intervene and demolished the same.
Besides this, NMMC recently issued notices to 26 property tax arrears, and have asked these arrears to paid at the earliest. As per reports, tax amount of INR 5 crores, has been pending, and if not collected on time, within 21 days, officials will have to take action whereby their property will be sold at auction.
