In light of the anticipated crowd during the year-end festivities and the arriving marriage season, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has formulated two squads in each of the 24 administrative wards, stated reports.
In each of these wards in Mumbai, the squad aims to see to it that COVID-19 appropriate behaviour is adhered to. The BMC added that it is alert for any surges in coronavirus cases along with a possibility of a new variant next month.
Last year in December too, the BMC had curated squads to ensure that COVID-19 rules aren’t flouted. According to the civic authority, there hasn’t been a visible rise in coronavirus cases post the Diwali festivities.
Nonetheless, they say, they are approaching the situation cautiously. Additionally, the civic body is expecting an increase in the number of international travellers visiting the country amid the festivities.
Therefore, the BMC has asked ward officers to increase COVID-19 testing across the island city, whilst keeping a close eye on any new variants of the novel virus.
Based on reports, presently eateries in the city can operate till 12 am, while indoor marriage halls can operate at 50 per cent capacity or a maximum of 100 people. Outdoor marriage halls, on the other hand, are permitted to accommodate up to 50 per cent of their capacity or a maximum of 200 people.
