It has been more than 24 hours since two-year-old Divyansh Singh fell in an open gutter in Goregaon’s Ambedkar Nagar and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) administration has failed to find the child.

On Wednesday night, the two-year-old fell into an open gutter while playing after which the BMC, Mumbai police, fire department along with National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) carried out a search operation. However, unfortunately, no positive development has taken place.

Divyansh fell into a drain which meets with a huge sewer which later joins the sea and with the ongoing rainfall in the city, the water flow is constant in the nullahs. Thus, the administration is carrying out its search operation in a larger radius.

From Wednesday night to Thursday morning, the search team conducted the search operation within 10 km distance. The locals demanded that the search operation should continue in the night with the help of lights.

Holding the BMC accountable and responsible for the incident, the locals on Thursday organised ‘Rasta Roko Andolan’ against the civic body. However, the protesters were dispersed after the police intervened.

While the child’s family has blamed BMC for the same, the officials are busy finding the responsible person for keeping the gutter lid open. BMC official Shreekal Pillai informed that the gutter lid was opened up for cleaning work but was never closed.
