Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday, January 6, chaired a review meeting regarding airports and the Vadhavan Port in the state.

The Chief Minister was speaking at a review meeting on the progress of construction of all airports in the state and the Vadhavan port. It was held at Sahyadri Guest House.

He directed that the work of Navi Mumbai International Airport as well as Nagpur and Shirdi airports should be started within the stipulated time frame.

During this meeting, presentations were showed on Navi Mumbai and other International Airports, covering work completed, remaining tasks, pending permissions, financial aspects, and land acquisition, the chief minister said in post on social media platform X. A review of 11 airports in the state was conducted.

"Navi Mumbai Airport is 85% complete and will have double the capacity of Mumbai Airport. Efforts are focused on ensuring the project is completed on time with high quality," he said.

Furthermore, 34 training aircraft and Air India's Flying Academy will be established in Amravati, which will become the largest academy in Asia, he added.

Ban on slaughterhouses, garbage dumping

As the Navi Mumbai airport is going to open soon, slaughterhouses, dumping of garbage and other polluting or hazardous materials within 10 km of the airport have been banned. For this, the government has formed an Aerodrome Environment Management Committee headed by Vijay Singhal.

Work on other airports and Vadhavan port:

Aviation is the fastest growing sector. The country and the state have to work on small things in this sector. In view of the increasing number of people in this sector, infrastructure facilities have to be expanded.

Fadnavis told officials to address delays in the ongoing infrastructure projects, immediately start night landing facility at the Shirdi airport, resolve pending issues at Nagpur and Shirdi airports by March 31, construction of a new terminal at Jalgaon airport, expedite land acquisition for Purandar airport, and initiate construction of Palghar airport.

The Maharashtra CM also emphasized the need to promptly finalise the decision for a new airport at Vadhavan in Palghar district to support the nearby port's growth and handle the largest trade traffic, along with key infrastructure like the bullet train and coastal road.

"Vadhavan Port is set to be a major project for both the central and state governments, aiming to become one of the world’s top 10 ports," he said.

The port will comprise nine container terminals, each 1,000 meters long, four multipurpose berths, including the coastal berth, four liquid cargo berths, a Ro-Ro berth, and a Coast Guard berth. The total project cost, including the land acquisition component is INR 76,220 crore.

Union Minister of State for Cooperation and Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol, Joint Secretary of Civil Aviation Ministry Rubina Ali, CIDCO Managing Director Vijay Singhal, Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation Chief Executive Officer P. Velrasu and others were present.
