Six wards in Mumbai have more than 10,000 COVID19 cases

Coronavirus cases in the city of Mumbai have seen a rise, once again, after a few weeks, and the data released by the state health department, as of September 25, 2020, stated that Mumbai had a total of 1,94,303 cases with 8,706 deaths. Meanwhile, COVID19 cases in Maharashtra crossed 13-lakh mark with more than 38,000 deaths so far. The recovery rate in the state is 76.33 per cent, and the case fatality rate in the state is at 2.67 per cent.

Increasing cases in Mumbai has increased the worries for local administration. The report released by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) stated that Mumbai had 1,876 cases and 48 deaths on Friday, and the municipality is working hard to control the spread of coronavirus across the city.

As of September 24, Borivali, Andheri, Dadar, Kandivali and Malad had the highest number of COVID19 cases. These five wards have more than 10,000 cases. Furthermore, the growth rate of Borivali is also among the highest in Mumbai. 

Bandra, Borivali, Dahisar, Andheri and Grant Road have the lowest doubling rate. The average in the city currently stands at 63 days, and this has significantly fallen in comparison to the average doubling rate recorded a few months back.

Moreover, looking at the increase in the number of cases, officials have sealed 686 areas and more than 10,000 buildings across several areas in Mumbai as containment zones or red zones.

Currently, 27618 patients in the city are marked as active cases, out of which 1569 are critical. Furthermore, 18380 patients are asymptomatic and 7669 patients are symptomatic. More than 10.5 lakh laboratory samples have been tested in Mumbai, and 18 per cent of them have been positive for coronavirus.
