Dadar market continues to witness huge crowd; Mumbai Guardian Minister Aslam Shaikh visits to inspect

For the past many days, pictures of a huge crowd gathered at Mumbai’s Dadar vegetable market has been making news. This is at the time when the city has been posting an alarming spike in coronavirus cases. Even on Sunday, April 4, Mumbai posted over 11,000 cases. Also on this day, Guardian Minister Aslam Shaikh visited Dadar vegetable market to inspect the situation and to interact with vegetable sellers.

While addressing reporters, he said, "People must adhere to guidelines else the government will have to take strict measures. Please wear masks."

Despite the surge in COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra, a massive crowd was seen at the Dadar vegetable market in Mumbai on Monday morning, April 5. The people in the market were seen flouting social distancing norms and many were seen without a proper mask.

On April 4, Mumbai reported 11,163 new COVID-19 cases and 25 deaths, which was the highest single day ever since the pandemic. The state government has imposed Section 144 of CRPC between 7 am and 8 pm, banning the gathering of more than five people at a place to curb the spread of infections.

Meanwhile, a night curfew from 8 pm to 7 am has also been in place with stricter restrictions and complete lockdown on weekends has also been imposed from April 5 to April 30, 2021 unless withdrawn.

Moreover, Maharashtra reported the highest single-day rise of 57,074 coronavirus positive cases while 222 patients succumbed to the infection, the state health department said.
