In a shocking RTI revelation, it was found that the director of St. George Hospital had allotted nursing home rooms to two RMOs, Dr. Bhushan Wankhede and Dr. Rahul Parde. These rooms are reserved for patients but it was given to doctors instead. Also, on going repair work in 5-6 rooms is causing inconvenience for patients.
When Mumbai Live contacted St. George hospital’s medical superintendent Dr. Madhukar Gaikwad, he refuted the claims of RTI activist Sanjay Gurav saying that the rooms are not reserved for patients but are on-call rooms.
“We have provided temporary rooms to RMOs. These rooms are not part of nursing homes. Rather these rooms were shut for many months,” Dr. Madhukar Gaikwad, medical superintendent, St. Geroge hospital.
In the hospital vicinity, there are seven rooms for resident doctors, yet doctors are being given rooms which are meant for patients, alleged Gurav. When Mumbai Live contacted Pravin Shingare, the head of the Directorate of Medical Education and Research, he said that they have not allotted any rooms to resident doctors.
“Allegations made by RTI activist Sanjay Gurav are baseless. There are doctors staying in J J Hospital as well but it doesn’t mean that we have permanently given them rooms,” said Shingare.
Gurav further alleged that nursing home rooms cost INR 150, INR 500 and INR 1000. When these rooms are given to patients, hospital charges money but when it comes to doctors, they're free.
