According to a data revealed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), more than 37,000 idols of Ganpati were immersed in Mumbai at both natural and artificial lakes on Ananth Chaturdashi, September 17.
Thousands of people were seen coming through the streets in grand processions to bid farewell to their beloved Bappa. Ganesh idols in all the major festival circles of Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, Nagpur etc. were immersed with reverence.
In Mumbai, immersion processions of Lord Ganesha with great heritage including Raja of Lalbagh, Raja of Mumbai, Raja of Chinchpokali, Sahyadri Ganapati of Tilak Nagar continued till early morning on Wednesday.
As many as 37, 064 idols of Lord Ganesha, including sarvajanik (public) and gharguti (home), were immersed till 6 am on September 18.
Of the total, 5,762 public mandal idols, 31,105 household idols and 197 Gauri idols were immersed.
A total of 11,713 idols in Mumbai were immersed in an environment-friendly manner. For this, the administration had provided artificial lakes throughout the city. Specifically, 709 Sarvjanik idols, 10,957 Gharguti idols, and 47 Gauri idols were submerged in them.
Idols of all the major Ganapati Utsav Mandals are immersed at Girgaon (Girgaon) Chowpatty. Therefore, the civic body installs big pandal at the chowpatty for the convenience of the devotees, along with police personnel, medical and disaster management team to maintain law and order situation and allow smooth visrajans.
Authorities attested to the fact that no unpleasant incidences during the immersion procedure were reported. The participants have had a seamless and incident-free experience because of the successful safety protocols and preparations for the immersion.
As per tradition, Ganesh idols are welcomed for 10-days at Maharashtra Chief Minister's official residence 'Varsha'. The Ganpati at Varsha bungalow was also immersed with traditional rituals by Eknath Shinde and his family on Tuesday.
