On early Friday morning, October 1, a sub-adult female leopard who is said to have attacked nearly seven people in Mumbai’s Aarey colony was trapped, reported the Indian Express.
According to the round forest officer, Narayan Mane, officials had laid four cages in Aarey to entrap the leopard.
When an inspection was undertaken at nearly 5.30 am, the leopard was seen to be trapped in one of the cages set out by the authorities.
Based on reports, the animal conducted its activities after nightfall, under the presumption that the people were its prey. On Wednesday, September 29, a 55-year-old woman was attacked by the leopard, videos of which have gone viral on various social media platforms. Apart from this, on Thursday night, September 30, a 19-years-old man was also said to have been attacked by the animal.
Mane added that the leopard has been transported to the rescue centre at Mumbai’s Sanjay Gandhi National Park for treatment. Officials go on to elaborate that at nearly 7.30 am the leopard was brought to the park and treatment was given to it for small wounds.
G Mallikarjuna the director of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park elucidated that identification was undertaken through the camera trap images and video footages of the leopard. On being asked if the animal would be released into the wild, he said that the decision would be undertaken by the seniors.
