Encroachment in Sanjay Gandhi National Park in Borivali is increasing and construction professionals have encroached on 9200 square meters of land in the park and due to encroachment, environmentalists have alleged that the area of the park is rapidly decreasing.

Construction professionals have been given limited space in the park by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). It is on this basis that the construction project is approved. However, builders have started encroaching on the park. Van Shakti Sanstha, which works for the environment, complained about this to the Green Arbitrator. The Green Arbitrator has appointed a committee to visit the site and submit a report.

These builders have started leveling the river bed by excavating in the hills where the two rivers, Oshiwara and Poisar, originate. Also a fencing professional has been given permission to build on Dindoshi Hill. Due to this, many trees have been cut there. In this regard, the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board and the BMC have registered a case against the builder. However, environmentalists have accused the forest department of ignoring this.
