With an aim to improve tourism and offer more places to visit, the state government has planned to construct 'Mumbai Eye' a replica of the popular London Eye. The plan was developed by the Metro Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and it is said that the 630-feet giant wheel called 'Mumbai Eye' will be constructed at Bandra Reclamation (facing Mithi River) as 'Pride of India' where tourists will be able to get a birds-eye view of the city.

The department on January 16, 2020, floated a notice and potential bidders were asked to submit the EOI by March 6, 2020, keeping the 'design, build, finance, operate, maintenance and transfer' model in mind. A meeting for the same was held two months back.

However, the team has not received any response for the bids yet and keeping the same in mind, the MMRDA has decided to extend the date to March 20, 2020. It is also said that the potential bidders demanded more land to construct restaurants and waterpark facilities.

Eight parties - Larsen & Toubro, Reliance Infrastructure, Esselworld, Deverus Advisory Services, Dhru Consultancy Services, Parkash Amusement and Hiten Sethi & Associates.- attended the meeting and offered suggestions. Many questions were raised by them regarding the timelines, land availability, commercial viability, parking requirement, revenue etc., which the officials were not able to answer.

Talking about the concept, Anil Joseph, chairperson of Perry Road Residents Association said that the Bandra reclamation was not the apt location for the project. However, he also stated that the concept was good.
