Once again Mumbaikars might face water cut in the city with Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) planning to present a proposal regarding the same. This is followed by the decrease in the water share by 16 per cent as compared to last year.

Every day, BMC manages to provide 3,800 million litres of water in the city. However, from Wednesday, there will be a reduction in the water supply to households by 380 million litres which is a reduction of 10 per cent.

The officials informed that with the reduction of water stock by 16 per cent reduction, the water in seven lakes has been reduced. These seven lakes are used to supply water for Mumbai and its people.

According to the data available with BMC till November 11, the seven lakes possess 11,11,385 million litres of water which amounts to 72 per cent full. However, last year, the lakes were 92 per cent full with 13,33,522 million litres of water.

Until the end of monsoon in September, Mumbai requires 14.47 lakh million litres of water in order to go through summers without water cut or shortage. Mumbai gets its water from lakes including Vihar, Tulsi, Bhatsa, Madhya Vaitarna, Upari Vaitarna, Tansa, and Modak Sagar. These lakes are in Nashik and Thane district.
