Mumbai experienced very heavy rainfall on July 2, 2019, and the entire city faced concerns for the entire day. But the wall collapse in Malad shook the entire city, and since the day, the number of the deceased has been increasing.
As per the recent reports, the number has increased to 27, as another man was announced dead on Friday despite being treated at Mumbai’s Cooper Hospital. Officials of BMC's disaster management cell said that Sunil Sutiba Jadhav (50) was declared dead at 6:30 am.
The incident took place as the retaining wall of BMC’s reservoir collapsed due to the heavy rainfall and fell on the hutments on a hillock in Malad's Kurar village. Officials from NDRF and MFB have been clearing the debris and people have been evacuated from the area.

Around 120 people were injured and were being treated at multiple hospitals in the city. While 24 patients have been discharged, around 70 are still being treated, said the officials.
Acting upon the situation, BMC chief Praveen Pardeshi has asked the team to conduct an audit of all retaining walls located on slopes, in order to avoid such incidents in the future.
