More than six thousand state-of-the-art CCTV cameras will be installed in the cities of Thane, Bhiwandi, Ulhasnagar, Ambernath, and Badlapur under the Thane City Police Commissionerate. After approving a proposal worth approximately INR 570.30 crores, the Thane Police has completed the tender process for the project and recently issued a work order to the contractor.


Thane Police Commissioner Ashutosh Dumbre held a meeting of the Project Implementation Committee on Wednesday and gave important instructions to implement this project promptly. Due to this project, the cities will soon have a network of CCTV cameras.


The cities of Thane, Bhiwandi, Kalyan, Dombivali, Ulhasnagar, Ambernath and Badlapur fall under the Thane Police Commissionerate area. There are a total of 35 police stations in these cities. In order to prevent crime, teams of police and staff of the crime investigation branch are always patrolling the city.

Police manpower is inadequate as compared to the population. The crime rate has been increasing in the Thane Commissionerate area for the past few years. Incidents of sexual abuse of children and women are constantly happening. Also, things like theft of gold chains, robberies, murders, and attempted murders are also happening.


Police had prepared a proposal to install 6,051 CCTV cameras in Thane, Bhiwandi, Ulhasnagar, Ambernath and Badlapur cities of Thane Commissionerate area. The state government has sanctioned a fund of 570 crore 30 lakh rupees for this project. The police had conducted a tender process for this work. In this process, M/S Shri Siddharth Infratech and Services Pvt Ltd and M/s Matrix Security and Surveillance Pvt Ltd have been awarded the work contract and they have been given the work order on October 10.

Features of cameras

This will include fixed, circular moving cameras. Also, ANPR cameras will be installed at the main intersection, which will clearly show vehicle numbers from a distance and in the dark. RLVD cameras that record the speed of vehicles will also be included. These cameras will be controlled by the police. They will also be connected to the control room.
