The Maharashtra Cabinet has announced a full toll waiver for small motor vehicles at all five toll booths entering Mumbai, effective from midnight on October 14. This significant decision, made during a cabinet meeting, is seen as a major move ahead of the upcoming elections.
Vashi, Mulund East-West, Airoli, Dahisar are the toll plazas in Mumbai. Small vehicles were burdened with toll while passing through these toll booths. But, in the background of the upcoming assembly elections, the government has taken a big decision for small vehicles. Small vehicles will not be charged from these five toll booths from tonight.
Earlier this year, the toll for light vehicles at these toll booths was raised to INR 45 as part of the routine three-year toll hike. Since 2000, Mumbai commuters have been paying toll charges at the city's entry points, introduced by the Maharashtra government to recover the costs of constructing flyovers across the city.
