Local residents and environmentalists have alleged that due to the construction of a car shed in Aarey Colony in the 'Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro 3' project, the Marol-Maroshi road area connecting Aarey Colony and Andheri East, as well as the main road connecting Aarey and Powai, is getting waterlogged. Meanwhile, the place where the water accumulates is very far from the car shed in Aarey, claimed senior officials of the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC).
Both the Aarey Colony Road and the carshed site are in low lying areas. Landfilling works have been done in a 33 hectare area for building carshed. Also, a wall has been erected in the boundary of the carshed. Amrita Bhattacharya of 'Save Aarey' has alleged that this road has been under water for the last two years due to the diversion of this stream by MMRCL.
Meanwhile, both the roads leading to Aarey from Powai and Marol are getting waterlogged due to heavy rains. Residents of Aarey have to use this road to go to work and markets in Powai and Seepz. However, environmentalists say that the project is affecting the homes and livelihoods of the tribal people in Aarey.
