The festive season brings an increase in alcohol consumption, with both Christmas and New Year being particularly popular occasions for celebrations. To cater to this demand, the state government has announced extended operating hours for liquor shops, pubs, and bars. From December 24th to 25th and on December 31st, liquor shops will remain open until 1 am, while pubs and bars have been permitted to serve alcohol until 5 am.
The Home Department has issued a circular formalising these extensions, allowing establishments with FLBR-II licenses to operate for longer hours during these three days. However, the local Collector retains the authority to deny permissions if concerns about law and order or public peace arise.
