Maldives President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu highlighted Mumbai's vast potential as India's economic hub for business across various sectors, emphasizing opportunities in tourism, real estate, and infrastructure. He stated that his country welcomes investment in these sectors and referred to the Vision Document signed by India and Maldives, which aims to elevate bilateral relations to new heights.
President Muizzu made these remarks during a reception hosted by Maharashtra Governor C P Radhakrishnan at Raj Bhavan, Mumbai, on October 8. Accompanied by his spouse Sajidha Mohamed and a high-level delegation, President Muizzu also extended an invitation to Bollywood directors and producers to consider joint film productions in the Maldives, expressing that films and TV serials shot in the Maldives would boost tourism. The President noted that next year will mark 60 years of diplomatic relations between India and Maldives, expressing satisfaction with his meetings with India’s leaders.
Governor Radhakrishnan warmly welcomed President Muizzu to Maharashtra and applauded the Vision Document for providing a framework to deepen ties between the two nations. He added that the introduction of RuPay cards in Maldives would facilitate easier travel for Indian tourists and enhance tourism. The Governor emphasized the Maldives' strategic importance in India's Indian Ocean Region policies and noted the shared cultural and economic linkages between the two countries that span centuries.
The Governor also acknowledged the significant contributions of Indian professionals in the Maldives, particularly doctors, nurses, and teachers, who have strengthened the bond between the two nations. He pledged to encourage Bollywood filmmakers to explore the Maldives as a film production destination, further fostering collaboration.
The reception concluded with a State Dinner hosted by Governor Radhakrishnan in honor of the visiting President and his delegation. The event was attended by Maharashtra government officials, including Minister of Skill Development Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Chief Secretary Sujata Sounik, and other dignitaries from the defense and municipal sectors.
