Taking into consideration the security of Bandra-Worli Sea Link, the police has now decided to patrol the Sea link 24x7. The Sea Link has redefined Mumbai with millions of vehicles using the route daily. Even after spending thousands of crores, the security of the sea link wasn’t given the required attention. After 26/11 attacks in Mumbai, it was decided to further strengthen the security of the Sea Link, though no specific action was taken.

However, the police has now decided to increase the security of the Sea link further with Mumbai Police taking an important step towards Mumbai's maritime security. It is planning to plug the gaps between the pillars of the Bandra-Worli sea link with safety nets with just one opening for fishermen boats to pass through.

After the terrorist attack in 2008, former Mumbai Police Commissioner D. Sivanandan had sent a warning by writing a letter to Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) stating that the link could be a target for terrorists. At that time, former Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Barve was working in the state secretariat section and had information about such danger due to several threat calls.

Keeping in view the security of the Sea Link, the police has now decided to patrol the Sea Link for 24 hours with MSRDC installing 80 cameras.

Notably, due to strict patrolling, there are many problems arising for the Koli community in Worli.

Harishchandra Nakhwa, chairman of the Worli Nakhawa Fisherman Society, said,

We have not received any information about the steps taken by the police for security reasons. MSRDC or the police did not meet us. There are around 500 boats in Koliwada at stake and therefore before taking steps from the point of view of safety, the fishermen should be taken into confidence in both Koliwada regions and their problems should be taken into account.
