The Anti-Narcotic Unit of Navi Mumbai police has made a notable arrest, apprehending a 27-year-old man named Arshad Karan Khan, who was allegedly involved in attempting to sell methaqualone (MD drug) near Satra Plaza in APMC. The Free Press Journal reported that the police successfully seized 151.17 grams of the drug, valued at ₹15.11 lakh. The arrest took place on Friday morning following a tip-off received by Senior Police Inspector Neeraj Chaudhary and his team.

Early Morning Trap Leads to Detention

Acting on the received information that a drug deal was expected to occur in front of Balaji Decor shop at Satra Plaza building in Vashi, the police strategically laid a trap in the early hours of Friday. At approximately 2:30 AM, Khan arrived with the illegal substance and was subsequently detained by the Anti-Narcotics Squad. His suspicious behavior along the footpath raised suspicions. Upon searching him, the police discovered a transparent plastic bag containing a cream-colored powder, later identified as methaqualone.

Arrest Under the NDPS Act

Arshad Karan Khan has been arrested under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The Navi Mumbai police have been actively cracking down on drug-related crimes, conducting operations to make the region free from narcotics.

Recent Drug Busts in Navi Mumbai

In recent weeks, the Anti-Narcotics Unit of Navi Mumbai Police has made significant progress in combating drug-related offenses. Two separate incidents resulted in the arrest of individuals involved in drug peddling. A total of INR 10.5 lakh worth of methaqualone was seized during these operations. On July 9, Deepak Subhash Suryavanshi was arrested from Vashi Plaza with 52.90 grams of methaqualone worth INR 5.29 lakh. Similarly, in the Kharghar area, Nishar Mohammad Shaikh was caught with 53.56 grams of methaqualone valued at Rs 5.35 lakh. Both arrests were made in accordance with the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Multi-Arrest Operation in Mumbai

On July 10, the Anti-Narcotics Cell of Mumbai Police conducted a successful operation resulting in the arrest of seven individuals, including a woman from SoBo and two Nigerians. The gang, led by Succerino Fernandes and her son Quinton, was taken into custody after intensive interrogation. Further investigation led to the arrest of Anju Vijay Pal from Mahim and Nigerian nationals Vincent Ogbonna Ezima and Hyancinth Uzolgwe, who were residing with Fernandes. Gautam Waghela and Aniket Pardesi, the alleged recipients of the drugs, were also apprehended in Pune. A thorough search operation was conducted at various locations, resulting in the recovery of 58 grams of mephedrone and 15 grams of cocaine worth over INR 16 lakh.

Mumbai Police's 'All Out Operation' Against Drugs

Under the guidance of Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar and Special Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti, the Mumbai Police have been actively conducting an 'All Out Operation' to combat the narcotics trade. The operation involves targeted raids on known drug hotspot areas and thorough search operations.
