In recent developments, Education Minister, Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal, has informed the public that the JEE Main entrance examinations will now be conducted in more regional languages from next year.
The Joint Admission Board (JAB) conducts the JEE examination at the national level for admission in IITs. In the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020), under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, education in mother tongue has been given priority. Pokhriyal stated that the decision was made with regards to a similar sentiment.
Pokhriyal further took to Twitter to inform the students of the same in a series of tweets. Furthermore, he informed that the decision would further the ideologies of the new education policy brought in by the Modi government. Even though he did not mention the number of additional language options that are going to be included or the names, however, the minister stated that these new languages will be available to students while seeking entry into State Engineering Colleges that conduct an entrance exam in regional language.
