The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) through its education department has asked its aided and civic schools in Mumbai, to give admissions to students from private schools from Class 1-Class 10, despite them not having the requisite school leaving certificates.
It is a largely held belief that owing to the coronavirus pandemic, many parents have faced financial difficulties that have had a rippling effect on their children’s education. Thus, according to certain reports, there is a trend to move students to public schools from private ones, this academic year. However, those students whose fees haven’t been cleared aren’t being provided with their school leaving certificates from the said schools. Thus, aided schools weren’t offering admissions to these students owing to the said reason.
Raju Tadvi, the education officer of BMC taking precedence from this, has asked its civic and aided schools to give students admissions, contingent on their birth certificates.
The state government in June guided its aided schools to not refuse Class 9 and 10 students, admissions. Since parents are unable to bear the expenses of private schools, they are seeking to transfer their children to aided schools.
With the Right to Education Act in mind, students cannot be denied education, and thus this decision was undertaken. According to reports, students were also complaining about not being permitted to attend their online classes since their fees were outstanding.
