A new category has been introduced under the Marathi Film Production Subsidy Scheme, where 'C' grade Marathi films will now be eligible for a subsidy of INR 10 lakh. However, this incentive will only apply to films that are screened after January 2024. This decision was made in a meeting led by Culture Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar with film producers and directors, where it was decided to include the 'C' category along with 'A' and 'B' categories. A government ordinance has been issued to formalize this inclusion.
The state government aims to encourage more film production by providing support and creating income opportunities for filmmakers. Under this new provision, 'C' grade Marathi films recommended by the Film Screening Selection Committee will now qualify for the subsidy.
Additionally, the ordinance mentions that female directors of Marathi films that win best film awards at national and international festivals, or female directors of 'A' category films eligible for the state’s film subsidy, will receive INR 5 lakh. A 'C' rated film, based on scoring between 35 and 50 points, will be awarded INR 10 lakh or the actual production cost, whichever is lower. Films scoring less than 35 points will not be eligible for financial assistance.
