In the aftermath of the lifting of the COVID-19 restrictions, the number of devotees gathering at the Haji Ali Dargah on Tuesday, May 3 and Wednesday, May 4 crossed 10 lakh, stated reports.
Usually, before the pandemic, the numbers would be around two to three lakh every year during Eid and Basi Eid cited narratives.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Mumbai Police declared that owing to a high tide in the Arabian Sea, the Haji Ali Dargah was closed. Therefore, the authority had requested citizens to avoid visiting the place of worship during the period.
Similarly, a high tide alert was also issued on Tuesday and Wednesday owing to which the shrine was closed for devotees for a certain period of time.
Trustees from the shrine were quoted in reports elaborating on how they were taken aback by the number of visitors. This surge has been attributed to the two-year gap owing to the lockdown.
Considering the safety of devotees, heavy police security will be deployed outside the shrine’s entry gate.
Unlike the last two years, where the Eid celebrations were on a down low owing to the coronavirus pandemic, this year, with the absence of restrictions, the festival was celebrated with pomp and grandeur alongside loved ones.
