The growing number of coronavirus cases has become a matter of concern. While the state and national health minister have assured that all the necessary steps are being taken to curtail this virus from spreading.
To help manage the spread of this virus effectively, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to set up its own coronavirus testing facility at its Kasturba Hospital. Prior to setting up this centre the swab samples of suspected people were sent to National Institute of Virology (NIV) at Pune. However, now from the past couple of weeks, these tests are carried out at Kasturba Hospital. This would help in bringing down the turnaround time of detection and starting the treatment.
Announcing the same, Suresh Kakani, additional commissioner, BMC, said earlier swab samples were sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV) at Pune, but now tests are being carried out at the Kasturba Hospital. At a time 90 samples can be tested at the laboratory and reports are available within four or five hours".
As per BMC administration estimates, so far almost 66,000 passengers have been screened at the Mumbai airport. Out of these, there were 62 suspected patients who have been admitted to Kasturba hospital. In Maharashtra, there have not been any confirmed cases in the state. In India there have been 30 people who have been tested positive with this virus but out of these three have already recovered making the total number of active cases to be 27.
BMC has assured that there is no need to travel as all the necessary steps are being taken. Everyone that is travelling from abroad especially from the places that have been impacted is being screened and the suspects are being kept in isolated places till further tests are carried out.
There were news reports that masks and sanitizers are running out in the city but there is no word on how quickly the supplies are being restored.
