There is widespread panic all across the country regarding the novel coronavirus. The growing number of cases in the country is a matter of concern for the Mumbaikars too. However, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray recently asked the citizens to not panic and assured that the government is taking necessary measures to deal with the COVID-19 outbreak.
On March 6, a new suspected patient has been admitted in Hinduja Hospital. Mahim. He had recently been to Dubai, which is one of the countries that has been impacted by this outbreak.
Update: The hospital and BMC officials have denied this report of a new suspected patient. The statement reads, "P. D. Hinduja Hospital & MRC has informed that there is no suspected or proven case of COVID-19 patient currently at the hospital. As a precautionary measure against coronavirus , the hospital is taking all necessary actions as per government guidelines".
Here is Mumbai is working to establish resistance against the novel coronavirus:
The members of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) Standing Committee recently demanded that screening must be held at Mumbai railway stations. The members also asked to set up screening facilities at the toll plazas near Mumbai.
To help manage the spread of this virus effectively, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to set up its own coronavirus testing facility at its Kasturba Hospital. Prior to setting up this centre the swab samples of suspected people were sent to National Institute of Virology (NIV) at Pune. However, now from the past couple of weeks, these tests are carried out at Kasturba Hospital. This would help in bringing down the turnaround time of detection and starting the treatment.
BMC maintains that their hospitals are all geared up to tackle this virus. They have kept 100 beds ready in isolation wards across Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar, KB Bhabha Hospital in Bandra, KB Bhabha Municipal Hospital in Kurla and Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Trauma Care in Jogeshwari.
Additionally, 24 health teams consisting of six members will be deployed at every ward to monitor patients who may show symptoms of coronavirus. Two teams will be deployed at the international airport to monitor the situation around the clock.
Alongside, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray also said that they are looking if the vacant Seven Hills hospital in Mumbai can be used for quarantine facilities.
So far, barring this one, nine suspected cases of coronavirus have been detected in Mumbai. CM Uddhav has asked people to not panic as the State Government is trying their best to get the situation under control.
BMC too has been advising people to take all necessary precautions and maintain personal hygiene. Here are some of the tweets that they have posted regarding the same in the last couple of days.
