With the joint efforts of the Indian Railways and the Impact India Foundation, a train, Lifeline Express was transformed into a mobile hospital. Along with this, all the state of the art services have also been kept in this train in order to provide the best possible treatment.
In a country like India, 70 per cent of the population resides in rural areas but does not have the necessary healthcare services. In order to make the services accessible to the remote places, the ‘Lifeline Express’ was launched on July 16, 1991 with just five coaches.
But in December 2016, the train was launched again with seven coaches in place of five coaches. By then, the train began providing cancer treatment as well as family health services. Till now, almost 10,000 patients have been treated by the train’s journey. "Lifeline Express" offers many facilities like Orthopaedic, Opalimal, Medium Ear Operation, Plastic Surgery, Family Planning, Gyna Disease and Cancer Department, Dental and Health Care Department, AIDS.
"Lifeline Express" is currently on tour to Maharashtra. First of all, it will be stopped in Latur in Maharashtra. After visiting several other districts of Maharashtra, the tour of other states of India will also express these.
