Maharashtra is likely to miss its target of inoculating its eligible adult population with the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccination by Tuesday, November 30.
According to the CoWin dashboard, until Tuesday, November 23, the state is yet to jab 19.65 million (or 21.51%) of the target population with the first dose of coronavirus vaccine.
Yesterday, November 23, senior state officials stated that they might have to revise the date to Wednesday, December 15.
For those unversed, on November 2, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, had set a target of completing 100% vaccination for the first dose by November 30. To successfully achieve the target, Maharashtra will have to jab 2.8 million doses a day in the next seven days.

Dr Sachin Desai, state immunisation minister, said that Diwali had led to a dip in the vaccination process. However, the vaccination was paced up post the festivities.
Till November 4, the number of the first dose administered daily had exceeded the second dose, said a senior official. After that, the second dose numbers have exceeded the first dose.
Earlier, state health minister Rajesh Tope has urged the Centre to consider reducing the gap between two shots of Covishield vaccine from 84 days to 28 days, to jab more people. In an effort to jab more people, Tope had also stated that they would rope in celebrities like Salman Khan for the cause would create awareness amongst the masses.
Meanwhile, Mumbai has already achieved its set target of administering first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
