Mumbai - Three parking spaces in Bandra Kurla Complex, G-ward were shut down on Thursday by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Authority (MMRDA).
On Friday, one of the parking spaces was re-opened following a report published by Mumbai Live on Thursday. Mumbai Live had covered the story and published it on Thursday. The decision of shutting down the parking space was reportedly taken due to unavailability of contractors who manage the parking space.
The issue was brought to light when a conscientious user tagged Mumbai Live, asking the authorities why the legitimate parking spaces had been barred for citizens, and complaining about the inconvenience faced by citizens.
A day later, MMRDA had little choice but to reopen the parking space. Vehicle owners had been forced to park their vehicles inside the JIO Garden parking space which is costlier than the MMRDA's designated parking spaces.
This then, is the power of social media coupled with the power of media which can reach out to the relevant authorities and ensure prompt action!
