The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has announced a change in the alignment of Pandurangwadi station built for the Metro 9 corridor (Dahisar-Mira-Bhayander). The authorities said that this move was taken so as to avoid the demolition of structures on its path.
Officials previously said that the station was expected to be built on the western portion of the service road belonging to the Western Express Highway. It was then learnt that over 150 structures including hotels, bars, restaurants, etc were on its path, and the decision was taken to relocate the station to the eastern side of the carriageway.

However, even in this scenario, an entry gate near the Dahisar toll booth will need to be partially removed as it obstructs the proposed alignment. The MMRDA has said that it has obtained the requisite permissions from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for the partial demolition of the gate.
Further, the MMRDA has assured the civic body that it will reconstruct the gate after the Metro project in the region is completed while an official said that the reconstruction will happen as per the designs provided by the civic body.
The Metro 9 corridor is an extension of Metro 7 and will consist of eight stations across an 11-km stretch. Previous project completion deadlines have been upended as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic which hit Mumbai particularly hard.
