The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) that is conducting the Metro Line 5 Project from Thane to Bhiwandi and Kalyan, recently cast the initial marine pile cap on Kasheli creek, reported the Indian Express.
Based on the account, the Metro 5 corridor that will function from Thane to Bhiwandi to Kalyan will be a 24.9 km elevated corridor entailing 15 stations. The said corridor is looked to offer connectivity to the present Metro 4 corridor work that is from Wadala to Kasarvadavali, as well as, the suggested Metro Line 12 that is looked to ply from Kalyan to Taloja. It is also looked to offer connectivity to the present Central Railway.
It is hoped that the rail-based interconnectivity will open doors to the government, commercial, as well as geographical points in Bhiwandi, Thane and Kalyan. Similarly, it is anticipated to curtail the present travel time.
According to the report, the MMRDA officials stated that the first marine pile cap in Kasheli creek for Metro corridor 5 was cast post attaining a no-objection certificate from the Maharashtra Maritime Board along with the Inland Waterways Authority of India.
The aggregate length of the Metro viaduct crossing the Kasheli creek is 550m, with the viaduct entailing 13 piers from which nine are in the creek and five are on the land.
