Now, the Central Railways (CR) have decided to launch its first Pod hotel at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) station by end of this month. Pod hotels are also known as capsule hotels, which has a capacity to accommodate 50 guests.
However, this will be the second such facility of the Indian Railways in the metropolis.
According to officials, the pod hotel is under development near the waiting room on the mainline (outstation train terminus) of the CSMT.
This hotel will have four family pods with a capacity of two people and will also have 30 single pods. Besides separate washrooms and shower rooms for men and women, the facility will have a luggage room for the passengers, they added.
A person opting for the pod will have access to television, mobile charging points and reading light.
The pod hotel will be available for passengers for 12 and 24 hours and is likely to cost ₹599 for 12 hours. The hotel will also have WiFi, washrooms, luggage and shower room in the common area.
Officials further stated that the pod hotel facility will be very helpful for passengers coming from outstation as a lot of trains arrive at CSMT from within Maharashtra as well. The hotel will benefit those passengers who have a few free days or hours in Mumbai before moving on to some other destination. These are also offered at a very reasonable cost.
Earlier, on November 17, 2021, a pod hotel was opened for passengers at the Mumbai Central railway station of the Western Railways (WR).
