The Santacruz Chembur Link Road (SCLR) Extension project is approaching its final stage. The project is expected to be completed and open to the public on January 1, 2025, provided that all necessary approvals are secured.
Only 100 meters of suspension span is remaining to be installed. After installation, suspension cables and road paving will happen, which will be staged to align with the curve of this segment.
As per a report by Indian Express, the last section of the bridge cannot be completed until two planned traffic blocks are taken and the required permits are issued by the traffic police.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has also finalised payments related to land acquisition for the project. Recently, INR 16 crore was paid to defence officials for land essential to the project’s completion.
The initial completion date was set for 2019, but various delays, including land requirements from defence, pushed the timeline back. Construction began in 2016, and this 4.2-kilometre road project extends from Kapadia Nagar to Panbai International School.
The SCLR extension will link the Western Express Highway at Vakola Junction with Kapadia Nagar Junction, near LBS Road. Passing through key areas, the route will improve connectivity between Kurla and the elevated Vakola road. It will cover notable points such as Vakola Junction, Ambedkar Chowk, University Junction, and BKC Junction.
