The state government has announced a public holiday on November 20 on the account of Vidhan Sabha elections that will take place in Maharashtra. The counting will take place on November 23.
If this order is violated...The state government has issued a circular declaring a public holiday as polling will be held on November 20. This holiday has been declared for every voting person. If it is not possible to give a full day off, a concession of two hours can be given for voting. However, it has been clarified that prior permission of the concerned Collector or District Election Officer has to be taken for that. It has also been said that action will be taken against those who violate the said orders as per the rules of the Election Commission.

Exercising the right to vote in an election is a constitutional right and a holiday is given on polling day to avoid any hindrance in exercising the right. This year, since the voting in Maharashtra is on Wednesday, the employees of Maharashtra will get midweek off for voting. But on this day there is an appeal to exercise the right to vote.
