Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday attacked the Uddhav Thackeray government in Maharashtra for its “ineffective handling” of the coronavirus outbreak.
A delegation led by Fadnavis, Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, met Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari and submitted a memorandum listing various demands. It also warned of statewide agitation against the MVA government.
Fadnavis said that a memorandum has been submitted to highlight the alarming situation in Maharashtra due to the negligence of Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in handling COVID-19 crisis.
While talking to the reporters, Fadnavis said that 40 per cent of the total deaths in India have been reported from Maharashtra. The state government should provide transportation services to migrant workers walking on roads and should help them reach for their trains, he added.
“The state government has completely failed on several fronts. There is the issue of massive neglect of migrant workers and farmers in Maharashtra are facing various troubles. There is a complete collapse of the health system,” former Maharashtra CM tweeted in Marathi while alleging that the MVA government was hiding COVID-19 patients data and was not following the protocol for deaths related to the virus.
Furthermore, Fadnavis said that all other states are offering packages but the Maharashtra government was busy pointing fingers at the central government. “Maharashtra government should release a package for the state,” the BJP leader said while also expressing concern over the condition of police in the state.
“…the situation is very dire. They (police) are not given any facilities. Does the administration even exist?” he added.
The delegation led by Fadnavis included MLAs Ashish Shelar and Atul Bhatkhalkar, MPs Gopal Shetty and Manoj Kotak and ex-MLA Vinod Tawde.
