Many localities in Mumbai have become polluted in the last few years due to infrastructure development projects, constructions and other reasons. Due to this increasing pollution, the health of citizens is in danger. Owing to this, the air quality has worsened over the time putting Mumbaikars lives at risk.
Byculla, Sewri, Deonar, Mankhurd assembly constituencies in Mumbai are found to be most polluted. Meanwhile, political parties, people's representatives and candidates in the assembly elections are clearly ignoring these important issues.
Byculla and Sewri have always been hotly debated constituencies in Mumbai city. Currently, these constituencies are also in the limelight for its impure air. Along with this, in the areas of Deonar, Mankhurd, Govandi, Kanjurmarg and Bandra-Kurla complex, there is no improvement in the pollution situation for many years.
Currently, all the political parties are campaigning in full force in these four constituency. However, this issue of pollution is not raised in any campaign of any political party. It is clear that political parties and candidates are not paying attention to this question.
Even when the candidate is meeting voters, promises are being made on issues ranging from roads, transport to redevelopment, education, health and employment.
While the problem of pollution due to landfills and bio-medical waste in Deonar is serious, now the residents of Govandi are shocked by the bad air in Mumbai. Meanwhile, apart from natural causes, many man-made causes are also adding to Mumbai's pollution.
Monitoring experts are reporting that the dust blown by infrastructure project works and constructions is causing deterioration of air quality. Similarly, the fumes emitted by vehicles contain ultra-fine particles.
These particles combine together and lead to increased pollution in the atmosphere. In the past few days, the air index in Sewri was recorded between 200-300. As per Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) norms, 201-300 air quality index is considered poor air quality.
It is said that political parties and people's representatives need to take concrete action steps to solve this serious problem of pollution.
