On Tuesday, April 5, Maharashtra Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil remarked that the state government has set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the claims of corruption levelled against the Enforcement Directrorate (ED), highlighted reports.

This comes in the aftermath of Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut writing to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Vice-President, Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu, levelling charges against the ED as well as accusing the central agency of operating an "extortion racket" in Mumbai.

Based on accounts, the SIT will function under the chairmanship of Additional Commissioner of Police Veeresh Prabhu. Adding that they will be given as much time as possible for the investigation.

Earlier, Raut had questioned why the central agencies were targeting some states such as Maharashtra and West Bengal. He further inquired if they don’t find anyone from other states.

The minister believed that this is a pressurizing tactic intended to destabilize the ruling MVA government. The minister remarked that the Mumbai Police will commence the criminal extortion and syndicate by a nexus of the ED officials.

Raut went on to allege that some ED officials are contesting elections on BJP’s ticket. He claimed that the ED is the ATM of the BJP and that he has given the records of extortions of these officers to the Prime Minister.
