On Monday, February 8, BJP Leader Devendra Fadnavis lashed out at the Maharashtra government that is being spearheaded by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray in view of the state government ordering a probe into tweets by Indian celebrities on the farmers' protest.

This comes after Sachin Tendulkar joined a long list of Indian actors, sportspersons and politicians tweeting on unity and farmers - a list triggered by Rihanna's tweet and the wave of international headlines and support it generated.

In a veiled response to the comments on the farm agitation by several foreign celebrities, Tendulkar had tweeted, "India’s sovereignty cannot be compromised. External forces can be spectators but not participants. Indians know India and should decide for India. Let's remain united as a nation".

According to reports, the Congress' Maharashtra state unit alleged that such tweets were written under pressure from the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre due to which a probe has been ordered in the matter.

However, in recent developments, Congress' Maharashtra state unit asked for a probe into these tweets alleging that these persons could have been under pressure of the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre. Post the fiasco, Anil Deshmukh, Maharashtra Home Minister asked the Intelligence Department to start an investigation regarding the same.

In view of the situation, former Chief Minister Fadnavis asked questions about the lack of 'Marathi pride' being shown by the MVA government. In addition, he argued the need to probe the 'mental stability' of the persons who demanded a probe and the people who approved it.
