12 applications over 11 Vidhan Parishad seats; BJP’s Prithviraj Deshmukh files nomination

If any one candidate withdraws their nomination, then the elections would happen unopposed.

Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Prithviraj Deshmukh filed an application on Thursday, the last day of filing of nomination papers for the Vidhan Parishad elections. However, on July 9, it will be clear whether the election will be unanimous since there are 12 applications for 11 seats. 

The applications will be scrutinised on Friday and July 9 is the last day for withdrawal of candidacy. In case, if one candidate withdraws his candidacy on the day, the election results will be unopposed.

Polling for the election is scheduled to happen on July 16. Along with Prithviraj Deshmukh, Animal Husbandry Minister Mahadev Jankar, Vijay Girkar, Ram Patil Ratolikar, Ramesh Patil and Niloya Naik also filed nomination papers from BJP.

From Shiv Sena, Anil Parab and Manisha Kayande have filed their nomination papers whereas Sharad Ranpise and Wajahat Mirza have filed nominations from Congress. Babajani Durrani from Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Jayant Patil from PWP have filed their nominations.
