According to media reports, Shiv Sena (UBT) might contest 8 out of 10 Lok Sabha constituencies of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). They might contest the upcoming polls with some ‘give & take’ policy.
Over the past few days, Thackeray has held discussions with party members and leaders. Recently he visited with representatives from the Mumbai North East and Mumbai North Lok Sabha constituencies.
In the 2019 elections, Shiv Sena (undivided) won three of Mumbai's six Lok Sabha seats. In 2019, they allied with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
In the last elections, Shiv Sena won the Mumbai South, Mumbai South Central, Mumbai Northwest, Kalyan, Thane, and Palghar seats. But now, the MPs from Mumbai South Central, Mumbai North West, Palghar, and Kalyan have joined hands with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led government.
The Shiv Sena (UBT) is aiming at Kalyan. This constituency is being looked after by CM Shinde's son Shrikant Shinde. Uddhav Thackeray’s party is also aiming at Thane, Palghar, and Bhiwandi seats in the MMR region along with the Mumbai North East.
According to media reports, Shiv Sena (UBT) has a candidate from the Mumbai North East, Former MP Sanjay Dina Patil. He has joined Shiv Sena (UBT) and the party is keen to contest from this seat. Shiv Sena (UBT) might leave Mumbai North Central and Mumbai North seats for the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).
In the 2019 elections, the Congress Party contested the Bhiwandi seat, but this time Shiv Sena (UBT) is eyeing that seat. In Mumbai North Central, Poonam Mahajan of the BJP defeated Priya Dutt of the Congress. The BJP dominates the seat in Mumbai North. In 2019, incumbent MP Gopal Shetty defeated actor-turned-politician Urmila Matondkar, who fought on the Congress ticket, by a wide majority.
In Bhiwandi, the BJP's Kapil Patil had defeated the Congress' Suresh Taware, and the Shiv Sena had won the Palghar seat (undivided).
Shiv Sena (UBT) will discuss its stand with Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) allies during the upcoming deliberations and meetings.
Speaking of the fight against the ruling government, we should not forget that Shiv Sena (UBT) is also a part of the opposition’s INDIA Alliance. Aaditya Thackeray, MLA from Maharashtra and the leader of the Yuva Sena, claimed that although joining the opposition INDIA bloc, his party was extremely upfront about its Hindutva ideology.
"Our Hindutva is very clear, we don't welcome rapists. Be it Bilkis Bano's or anyone else," Thackeray made these remarks while he attended a national media event. He was referring to last year's remission policy implemented by the Gujarat government, which saw the 11 culprits in the Bilkis Bano gang rape case released from prison and welcomed at the Vishwa Hindu Parishad office with flowers.
