On December 20, the National Basketball Association (NBA) India announced that the Indiana Pacers and Sacramento Kings will play two preseason games in Mumbai in 2019. These will mark the beginning of first ever games played by the NBA in India, and they will be played on October 4 and 5, 2019 at the NSCI Dome.

The announcement was made by NBA Deputy Commissioner Mark Tatum and NBA India Managing Director Yannick Colaco in Mumbai. Talking about the same, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said, "Our inaugural NBA India Games will help further untap the enormous basketball potential in a country with a thriving sports culture and a growing, young and engaged population. We thank the Kings and Pacers organizations for participating in this historic event."

Since 2006, more than 35 current and former NBA and WNBA players have visited India on behalf of the NBA, after which the association opened their office in Mumbai in 2011, to promote the game and the players in the country. In addition to the two preseason games, the league and its partners will also conduct interactive fan activities, Jr. NBA youth basketball programming and NBA Cares community outreach events on the two days to offer an added NBA experience to fans.
