The fourth phase of unlocking will be initiated in September, and it is likely that the monorail service will restart in Mumbai for passengers. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) may start running the monorail soon.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has already announced fresh guidelines called Unlock 4.0 to ease restrictions. This comes after the Delhi government announced that the Delhi metro services will resume from September 7. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), however, will operate trains in a graded manner.
The Mumbai Metro services may also start from September 7, as per the Unlock 4.0 guidelines issued by the MHA. Further, guidelines and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) will be issued by officials and will have to be followed strictly by the respective states.
If the Maharashtra government gives permission, there is a possibility that the monorail services can resume in Mumbai. Meanwhile, the monorail is ready to get on track. However, the services will not start unless the state government provides permission.
The Maharashtra government is already under pressure from the general passengers to allow them to use the Mumbai Local train services. Currently, the local trains only operate to ferry employees working in the essential sectors recognised by the state government.
The maintenance and repair work by the MMRDA for monorail is on full swing. The monorail services have been shut for over five months due to the coronavirus lockdown. As the guidelines for Unlock 4.0 have been issued, the administration has now expedited the maintenance and repair work of the monorail.
