In an attempt to offer last-mile connectivity to travellers, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is considering offering commuters the opportunity of renting bicycles from outside the metro stations of the upcoming two metro corridors between Dahisar and Andheri, stated reports.

This is anticipated to be similar to the renting cycle operation underway on the Versova-Ghatkopar Metro 1 line. Based on accounts, the MMRDA will partially open the Metro 2A corridor from Dahisar and Dahanukarwadi as well as the Metro-7 corridor from Dahisar East and Aarey Colony by mid-May.

The entire corridor is expected to be operational from October 2022. MMRDA officials have reportedly mentioned that they are in talks with companies offering bicycles for rent. Adding that they are looking to have a dedicated space outside every metro station for the same, cited narratives.

The scheme hopes to offer last-mile connectivity to commuters and is a similar experiment to that of the present Metro corridors two years earlier.

SVR Srinivas, metropolitan commissioner of the MMRDA was quoted in an account elaborating on how they are on the last stages wherein the trial runs for Metro 2A and Metro 7 are underway. He added that once the safety certificate is made, they will commence the service for the travellers.

Based on reports, speculations are being made that the safety certificate will arrive by the end of March after which in the next month the two Metro stations will commence. On the other hand, the MMRDA has also requested the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) to operate new bus routes as feeder services.
