Although the water level is declining, small vehicles and two-wheelers are still not allowed on the route for precautionary measures.
Heavy rains for three days in a row led to floods in various districts of Maharashtra. As a result, 35 roads in the district including Kolhapur to Sangli, Kolhapur to Ratnagiri, Kolhapur to Panhala on the Pune-Bangalore highway were closed for traffic.
There were more than six to seven feet of water on the highway. Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on both sides as the road was closed on Friday evening, July 23.
Nearly 2,000 Karnataka connected vehicles, were stuck on the national highway, mention officials. Since Friday, the highway has restricted its services to commuters as a certain section was underwater due to the high water levels caused due to the intense downpour in the area.
Moreover, the traffic on the Mumbai-Goa highway has also resumed after five days. Currently, vehicles up to eight feet high are only allowed.
