Uber on Wednesday, April 2, launched a new category for teenagers in 37 cities, including Mumbai and Delhi NCR. The aggregator cab operator said the category is designed to provide safe, reliable and convenient transportation for teenagers aged 13 to 17.
Company officials said the category uses strict safety protocols like GPS tracking, real-time ride tracking and an in-app emergency button. This allows parents to keep an eye on the rides booked by their children aged 13 to 17. This will allow parents to get information about their children's rides.
Parents can also set up child accounts in this category. This will allow parents to book rides on behalf of their children, track their rides and get detailed ride information.
According to a customer survey conducted by us, 92% of parents said that their teenagers are unable to travel due to lack of reliable transportation options.
At least 72% indicated that safety was a key consideration when looking for transportation options for their teens, an Uber spokesperson said.
In terms of usage, 63% of parents surveyed said they have to use their cars to take their teens to after-school activities, sports, and other activities. While 61% of parents said they have to do the same for their kids’ after-school coaching classes.
“We recognize the transportation challenges teens and their families face in India,” said Prabhjit Singh, president, Uber India and Uber South Asia.
“With Uber for Teens, we will provide a service parents can trust so that parents can rest assured about their kids’ rides and kids can enjoy their Uber rides.”
