On Thursday, the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) Chairman Vinod Rai suggested a two-ODI ban on Indian players Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul for the controversial comments during entertainment talk show Koffee With Karan.
The all-rounder was slammed for his comments, which were considered misogynistic and sexist, and eventually resulted in intervention from CoA who issued a show cause notice against the duo on January 9. In response, Hardik had said that he was regretful for his comments and vowed to not repeat the behaviour.
While Rai has recommended the ban on Pandya and Rahul, Diana Edulji has stated that she would consult a legal team if they could ban the duo.
I am not convinced with Hardik's explanation and I have recommended a two-match ban for both players. However the final decision will be taken once Diana gives her go ahead," Rai said.
India are scheduled to start a three-match ODI series against Australia from Saturday. In the meantime, Rahul, the more restrained of the two in the show has not yet reacted to the entire matter.
Diana has sought legal opinion whether the duo can be banned. So, obviously, a decision will be taken once she gives her nod. As far as I am concerned, the comments were crass, in bad taste and unacceptable," the CoA chairman said.
