On Saturday, Dharavi police took a 17-year-old boy into custody following robbery incidents which took place in eight houses on the same day. On Sunday, he died at Sion Hospital and his angry relatives protested against the police by pelting stones and by vandalising their vehicles. Five policemen were injured during this incident.

The 17-year-old's father, Ravindra Jaiswar, alleged that police beat up the boy in the name of interrogation and he died due to the same reason.

For a few days now, burglary cases have increased in Dharavi. Eight burglaries took place on Saturday and police then arrested Gandhi Nagar resident Sachin Jaiswar on the suspicion of burglary.

It is believed that Jaiswar was tortured in prison after which his health deteriorated and was shifted to Sion’s Lokmanya Tilak Hospital. Jaiswar died during treatment. His relatives were left angry and upset and started attacking policemen and their vehicles.

Many of them, attacked policemen with paver blocks in which five policemen were injured. Meanwhile, police have filed a complaint against unknown assailants.
