The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Mumbai in coordination with its regional units, has busted a clandestine Mephedrone manufacturing facility located in the remote hilly terrain of Rohina village, Latur district, Maharashtra.
Acting on specific intelligence regarding a syndicate involved in the illicit manufacturing of Mephedrone, a psychotropic substance listed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, DRI officers conducted sustained surveillance in the area. In the early hours of April 8, 2025, a search operation was carried out at the suspected location.
The search led to the seizure of 11.36 kg of Mephedrone (comprising 8.44 kg in dry form and 2.92 kg in liquid form), along with large quantities of raw materials and full-scale laboratory equipments used for manufacturing the substance.
Five individuals, including a police constable, directly involved in the manufacturing of Mephedrone at the clandestine facility were apprehended. In a swift and coordinated follow-up, two more individuals—identified as the financier and distributor—were apprehended in Mumbai.
All seven persons have admitted to their roles in the financing, manufacturing, and trafficking of Mephedrone. The total seizure, including 11.36 kg of Mephedrone valued at approximately ₹17 crore in the illicit market, raw materials, and equipment, was effected under the provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985.
